Sharjah: Sharjah Civil Defence has launched a campaign to ensure safety protocols are followed at industrial facilities.
During the first phase, which ran from February 1 to February 8, inspectors visited all facilities in industrial area 10.
They issued warnings to 180 establishments and gave them 72 hours to rectify violations.
Violations included improper storage practices, building unlicensed housing, lack of safety standards and use of combustible chemicals and gasses.
The next phase will be in industrial area 6.
Brig Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, said that establishments that have received warnings must visit civil defence service centres after rectifying violations.
Inspectors will subsequently revisit these locations to ensure compliance. If a company fails to comply, legal action will be initiated.
Sharjah Civil defence to recruit 297 citizens
Sharjah Civil Defence is in the process of recruiting 297 citizens for firefighting and administrative roles. Out of 350 applicants, 297 will be selected after interviews and tests.
A total of 60 firefighters have finished training in Abu Dhabi and joined Sharjah civil defence centres.
Two new fire stations — Al Nouf and Maliha — will also be operational during the first half of 2024, while Al Siyouh fire station will be operational by next year.
The fleet will see the addition of new hazardous materials transport vehicles, eight first responder vehicles, and new rescue devices and equipment.
Sharjah Civil Defence has signed 13 contracts with nine suppliers for the supply of 50 fire and rescue machinery, equipment and marine parts for three years.
